Cambodian King Appoints Four New Provincial Governors, Reassigns Others

Phnom Penh, June 25, 2024: In a significant administrative reshuffle, King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia has appointed four new provincial governors and reassigned four others to different provinces, as per royal decrees issued on June 24, 2024.

Mang Sineth, previously Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk province, has been appointed as the Governor of Preah Sihanouk. Sor Soputra, who served as Deputy Governor of Kampong Speu, now takes up the role of Governor in Stung Treng province. Additionally, Mean Chanyada and Nuon Pharoth, both former Deputy Governors of Phnom Penh, have been designated as Governors of Oddar Meanchey and Kampong Thom provinces, respectively.

In parallel moves, Vey Samnang, the erstwhile Governor of Kampong Speu, transitions to the Governorship of Takeo province. Kuoch Chamroeun moves from Preah Sihanouk to Kandal as Governor. Cheam Chansophorn and Pen Kosal, who previously headed Thbong Khmum and Oddar Meanchey provinces, are now appointed as Governors of Kampong Speu and Thbong Khmum provinces, respectively.

Furthermore, four former governors have been transferred to the Ministry of Interior as Secretaries of State. These include Kong Sophorn from Kandal, Ouch Phea from Takeo, Svay Sam Eang from Stung Treng, and Nguon Rattanak from Kampong Thom.

This reorganization reflects the Royal Government’s commitment to ensuring effective governance and addressing the specific needs of each province.
